Why Malaysia Is Becoming A Fat Nation?

Obesity has now become a major issue in our country.

In fact Malaysia is placed sixth in the most obese country in Asia. Lifestyle choices, genetic predisposition, learned behaviour and a lack of health awareness have all been pinpointed as the causes to the growing rate of obesity in Malaysia.

It also doesn’t help that Malaysia is known for its delicious yet calorie-laden foods such as Char Kuey Teow, Mee Goreng, Roti Canai, Nasik Lemak and etc.

Though our local favourites taste good, it is best to note that many of these energy-dense food are lacking in nutrient content and can contribute to various diseases including cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and diabetes. These are also the top three Malaysian obesity related disease!

Hence, it is important for the society to be aware of healthy living and be motivated to adopt a holistic approach by changing our mindset, attitude and behaviour. We can be a fitter and healthier nation by adopting three simple measures:

Eat only what we need – best to follow the recommended daily calorie intake.

Exercise whenever we can – for a start, working out for 30 minutes a day, three times a week.

Sleep well – get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night to do your body justice.
