A No-Rice Day Fasting

A No-Rice Day Fasting

Thursday, 01 July, 2010

TEMPO Interactive, Yogyakarta:In order to reduce Indonesia dependency on rice, Agriculture Minister Suswono called on the Muhammadiyah group to participate in reducing the national rice consumption. I hope Muhammadiyah can launch a no-rice day or to only eat rice twice on that one day,?Suswono told the participants at the Farmers and Fishermen National Meeting in Sleman, yesterday.

According to Suswono, if the no-rice day is implemented, it can significantly reduce rice consumption in Indonesia. 揟here are millions of Muhammadiyah members. That means tons of rice. It would be a positive thing,?he said.

With 139 kilograms of rice per capita annually, Indonesia rice consumption is the biggest in the world, followed by Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.
