GEORGE TOWN: A cattle rearer who supplies up to 500 litres of fresh cow and goat milk daily to customers is appealing for help to relocate his livestock.

K.T. Sivanandam’s cowshed in Kampung Buah Pala here was partly demolished at about noon yesterday.

As one of the biggest suppliers of cow and goat milk in the island, he appealed to the authorities to grant him a two-week grace period to relocate about 150 cows and 50 goats.

“It is easy for people to move out from the village but where am I supposed to place my livestock? I cannot just move them into apartments or any landed property!” he said yesterday.

The animals are reared in a cowshed that sits partially on the land that belongs to Koperasi Pegawai Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang Bhd while the other portion is on government land.

Sivanandam said he had earlier sought the help of Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N.Rayer, whom he said had promised a solution in 48 hours.“We met on Tuesday last week but until now, I have not heard from him,” he said.

He added that the developer had also promised to build a temporary cowshed at an adjacent plot but that, too, did not materialise.

“Just last week, the contractor appointed by the developer to carry out demolition work told me nothing would happen to my cowshed.

“But on Tuesday, they told me demolition would take place today (yesterday) at noon. I just do not know who to believe now,” said Sivanandam.

Nusmetro Ventures (P) Sdn Bhd executive director Thomas Chan said the company was merely carrying out works within their site and according to approval given by the Penang Municipal Council.
